The Joojoo Running Windows 7
Jun 12, 2010 - 7:44 PM - by Dunhamzzz
This must be one of the first recording of an alternate OS on the Joojoo tablet.A french person by the name of "Xetranet" has successfully installed Windows 7 on his Joojoo. Everything is claimed to be working apart from the accelerometers - meaning no orientation switching just yet. Xetranet also tells us that the battery life is significantly better running Windows 7 and he managed to squeeze 4 hours of use out of the Joojoo. Kind of makes you think what Fusion garage have done so badly to make a webkit-based browser sap up so much energy on its own.
The Joojoo contains the NVIDIA ION chipset, which explains why all the hardware is working fine. The touch-screen keyboard of Windows 7 actually looks pretty nice and slides in and out very smoothly.
No full tutorial has been put up yet, but involves accessing the BIOS (to select boot device maybe?) using a USB keyboard.
Any sort of altering of the Joojoo is done at your own risk, and unless someone has made a back up image, the effects of changing OS may be permanent for the time being.
Tablet Version on Ubuntu coming 2011
Jun 11, 2010 - 6:17 PM - by Dunhamzzz
Canonical, the developers of the popular Linux distro Ubuntu have revealed they will be making a Tablet-orientated version of the operating system. This flavour of Ubuntu will feature various multi-touch gestures and a tuned on-screen keyboard for touch-based input. Canonical have said they will merge the current "netbook remix" version of Ubuntu with the tablet version, creating an "Ubuntu Light" and market it as a fast-boot alternative to Windows.
Dell Streak Unboxing Video
Jun 05, 2010 - 12:35 PM - by Dunhamzzz
I recently uploaded my Dell Streak unboxing video. This is the European version of the Dell Streak bought from the UK.Here are some must-know facts on the Dell Streak
- It's locked to O2
- 16/32GB microSD included
- It's awesome
- Comes with Android 1.6 with 2.2 on it's way
- £429 on its own in the UK, around $500 in the US
I've had my Streak for 24 hours now, I will be writing up a quick first impression review soon.
Have Fusion Garage Missed the boat with Europe?
May 27, 2010 - 5:35 PM - by Dunhamzzz
One of the view things the Joojoo had over the iPad (aside from Flash, big screen, USB port etc) was that it was available to European consumers a couple of weeks before the iPad, so tablet hungry consumers could get their hands on a Joojoo a couple of weeks before the iPad.
But much like Joojoo original pre-order procedure, things haven't exactly gone smoothly, and with Apple iPads hitting European customers a whole day or so early, the Joojoo is no where to be seen.
I originally order my Joojoo as soon as physically possibly from the Joojoo site on 29th April, and a month down the line I still have a 12 inch gap on my desk where my Joojoo should be.
I have written an overview with my experience with Fusion Garage and how I do not have a Joojoo yet here: Joojoo Booboo.
So have Fusion Garage missed the opportunity to hit Europe first? They had a rocky release in the US when they released at pretty much the same time as the iPad, and the word "joojoo" was seldom mentioned.
Official: Dell Streak coming to O2 UK 4th June
May 25, 2010 - 10:19 AM - by Dunhamzzz
This morning, Dell released what was probably their first official mention of their much-leaked 5-inch Android tablet, the Dell Streak. The Direct2Dell blog reveals that we can expect to see the Dell Streak coming to the UK in "early June" (that's actually next week) with mobile carrier O2, with the rest of Europe then finally the USA to follow as the summer progresses. Who knows why they have decided to release in this order, maybe it's because the USA is still busy going iPad crazy.
Check out this video interview and hands-on with Kevin Andrew from the Dell Streak dev team and Lionel from the D2D blog. IT shows off the UI and he discusses multi-tasking and he beauty of the high-resolution 5-inch WVGA screen.
A few official product images have also emerged, I have posted them in Dell Streak pictures thread.
Is the Dell streak an iPad killer? or an iPhone killer? Are Dell releasing the Streak in regions that don't currently have an iPad for this very reason? Let us know in the comments.
Update, after snooping around the O2 site, I found the Dell Streak product page, stating the product is on sale June 4th.
Streaking in the Street
May 20, 2010 - 4:08 PM - by Dunhamzzz
There are many things you can spot out on the streets these days, but a Seattle Times blogger never expected to see a tripod supporting 4 Streak! Dell's 5 inch tablet that is, obviously. The team of Dell Streaks were apparently being tested by an AT&T engineer for performance and emergency protocols for use on their network. In the pictures taken, we can see 3 black units and one sporting it in red.
As mentioned before, we can expect a release for the Dell Streak as soon as next month.
Dell Streak Coming to O2, AT&T Very Soon
May 14, 2010 - 3:10 PM - by Dunhamzzz
This news has apparently come straight from the horses mouth, Michael Dell himself.eWeek reports that at the Citrix Synergy conference Michael Dell took the opportunity to once again show off his "Streak" tablet device.
He states that the Streak will be available in Europe from as early as next month through carrier O2, and later on in the USA with AT&T.
