The world of tablet computers continues to grow. Nearly all of the major manufacturers either have a tablet computer available or are in the final stages of design for their products. Relatively unknown newcomer Notion Ink is no exception and will soon be in the tablet computer business with its release of the Adam tablet.

Notion Ink is so new in fact that there website is still under construction. They have a Blog that offers a little information into the company’s vision and what they hope to accomplish with the Adam.

Notion Ink states that they want the Adam to be revolutionary. Of course all companies say this when launching a new product, but given the fact that the company is a startup and is designing from the ground up, it’s a good possibility that they can deliver. After all, the best innovation often comes from those with the least to fall back on.

Among the things Notion Ink wants to accomplish with the Adam is a breakthrough in email. They state on their Blog that “Business people will love it. It will give you an amazing freedom which we never had.” It’s hard to even imagine such an innovation in something as commonplace as email, and that makes it all the more exciting. They also state that they are working closely with universities in developing new technologies and that universities will be the first to have access to the Adam when it becomes available.

The Notion Ink Adam will be among several other tablet makers who have chosen the Android operating system as their OS of choice. This isn’t that surprising given Android’s accessibility and the fact that it was designed from the ground up for mobile computing.

The Notion reportedly will have perhaps the best graphics capabilities of any of the current wave of tablets. IT will sport a 1080p video playback capability and a state of the art 10” screen that will be able to change from full color to monochrome ePaper mode at the touch of a button. Other innovations include a rear mounted touch screen that allows a user to add input without obstructing even an inch of the dazzling screen. Battery life is being reported at an amazing 16 hours but there’s no clarification as to whether that’s with full video or simply web surfing.

It looks like 3G will be standard for the Adam and the company is currently testing with both US carriers and with Carriers in Notion Ink’s home country of India. Notion is also in the negotiation phase with a few carriers and will reported offer the device as part of a service contract, though that’s a ways down the road still.

Recently, the company has gotten most of its press from reports that they were having serious problems with Flash technology. These delays have been blamed on the NVIDIA Tegra 2 Graphics chipset, which is reported causing problems with a few other devices using the component. Notion has commented that the Flash problem will soon be resolved and that the product should be available for release about two months later.

The Notion Ink seems like it will be a solid device and very well could launch this little startup to greatness. Unfortunately, they are trying to break into a field full of the big boys, eager to compete with the already surging iPad. Though no official word has been given on pricing in the United States, a base price of about $321 dollars will be what the unit goes for in India. US prices will likely be somewhat higher.
